K&D Countertops & Cambria were proud to be a sponsor for the “Capes for Kids” event held Thursday, January 23rd in our Maryland Heights Showroom. Several teams of designers came together to create capes based off different superheroes and Disney characters. The capes are going to be given to children in local children’s hospitals who are terminally ill to lift their spirits.
The three awards (Best Overall, Best Concept to Creation & Best Craftsmanship) that were given away were engraved by Arthur J. Lager Monument Company in Breese, IL.
It was such an amazing event for a great cause! Thank you to all who volunteered and everyone who donated toys for the children! We had a Super time!
There were several groups of teams that participated in this fun event. They all worked diligently throughout the evening with a time limit of about an hour and a half. They came in with sketches and ideas, and were armed with sparkly sequins, colored fabric and glue guns. Time seemed to fly by as they raced to bring their masterpieces to life. Each team had a unique design and approach as to how they assembled their capes. There were several groups that went above and beyond by also including masks, arm cuffs and hair pieces in addition to their capes. The additional attention to detail and supreme craftsmanship based off their characters did not go unnoticed. Teams poured their hearts into their designs, knowing that it was going to make a child so incredibly happy.
When the competition ended, all teams lined up their capes and accessories next to each other. It truly was a tough decision for the judges. Each capes was special and unique in its own way. There was a wide range of characters represented this year. The creativity, concept and craftsmanship was unparalleled. There were so many talented designs who put everything they had into their pieces, and were very proud to display them. It was a very tough decision. The judges deliberated for awhile, and here was their decision.
