Spring Cleaning Your Kitchen

It may not feel like it yet, but spring is here! Warm weather is just around the corner. Each year during this transition period I always get the itch to declutter and clean my home. It’s nice to have a freshly cleaned house that pays homage to a new season. A tidy home feels like a fresh start. I usually clean my house in two waves. The first wave is going room by room and getting rid of excess items that I don’t want, use or need anymore. The second wave is then gathering all of the cleaning products and going to town dusting, scrubbing and polishing all of the dirt away. For this post specifically, I’m going to talk about different ways you can declutter and organize your kitchen to make it visually attractive for you and your guests. Spring cleaning your kitchen results in a beautiful kitchen that displays all your items in a neat and easy to find manner. Less mess equals less stress!

Reorganize Countertop Surfaces

It’s fun to display a few items on your countertops such as utensils and kitchen appliances. However, empty counters means more cooking space and less items to continually clean. A balance of a few items on the counters makes for less clutter and easier clean up. Trays, turntables, knife racks and shelving units are all useful ways to tidy up the items you typically store on the counter.

While you’re spring cleaning your kitchen, don’t forget to “spring” up your space! Brighten up your space by adding in a few plants like succulents or fresh tulips on your window sill or kitchen table as a spring centerpiece.

Declutter Drawers & Cabinets

In addition to decluttering your countertops, don’t forget to clean out your drawers and cabinets as well. If you’re like me, you might have a few too many mugs and water bottles that could be sorted through. You might also have some utensils that don’t get used. The new spring season is the perfect time to go through each cabinet and drawer, take out what you don’t use and reorganize the tools that you want to keep. Once you’re all done, you’ll be able to grab what you need for cooking in a pinch. Decluttering your extra items will make your day to day life easier and bring you peace of mind.

Tidy Up the Pantry and Fridge

If you have lots of spices like me, this one might take awhile. From condiments to meats, to fruits and veggies, there is a plethora of items that all need a section of the fridge and pantry. I ordered a three tier spice rack a few months ago that changed my life. If you’re looking for a few pantry and fridge storage hacks, I recommend checking out this article for pantry organization and this article for fridge storage. Your spices and fresh food will look great displayed and you’ll be able to quickly grab whatever you’re looking for and be on your way.

Once all of these steps have been completed, you can rest assured that your kitchen will look and feel beautiful. There’s always a sense of relief when accomplishing this transformation in your kitchen. Spring cleaning your kitchen makes such a big difference in the look and feel of your space. It might take some time and effort, but the end result is worth it. If it seems overwhelming trying to clean and organize your kitchen in one day, you can always split it up and clean a little here and there throughout the week. Once you tackle your kitchen you can move on to another area until you feel like your home is ready for spring. Put on some good tunes, round up your cleaning supplies and get ready for warm weather!
